About

Opening in October 2014, Kook Projects is a contemporary art exhibition and project space, founded by a mother and son duo, Kate Kook and WooJae Chung.

A practitioner of installation art and photography, Kate has also worked as a textile designer in Seoul before moving to New York with her son in 1999. With his training in filmmaking and theater, WooJae explores convergence of performance and visual arts in his work.

At Kook Projects, exhibitions will feature artists across various mediums and genres, as well as geographic boarders. Through collaborations with guest curators and artists, exhibitions will strive to present divergent perspectives, communities, and identities, fostering dialogue and inquiry. In addition, the Project Series will focus on emerging artists, new media, performance, film, and site-specific installation art.

October 24th marks the opening of the Kook Projects’ home base, a garden apartment-turned-art space in Midtown East on 51st street.

Kook Projects aims to bring ideas, experiences, and thoughts freely into any space or vessel.
